“Just because your world stops doesn’t mean that your life stops for you.” - Julian's Mom
As a parent, when you hear the words “your child has cancer”, your world is completely flipped upside down. You are pushed into a world of doctors appointments, medical treatments, meal plans, learning new medications, and so much more. For Julian and his parents, their world was changed in an instant on January 21, 2024 when they found out their six-year-old son had B-Cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Julian’s parents poured every ounce of their energy into caring for him, balancing the responsibilities that came with treatment. Childhood suddenly looked very different for Julian. Days that should have been spent on playgrounds with friends were instead spent in hospital rooms and waiting areas. Each week, the family made frequent trips to Stanford, holding onto hope through every appointment, procedure, and treatment. Together, they faced each challenge with strength and determination, focused on one goal: helping Julian heal.
“When you get a diagnosis like this, those little things in the back of your mind are nonexistent but they still have to get done. You completely forget day-to-day tasks when you are in the trenches trying to keep your child comfortable.” - Julian’s Mom
After a year of navigating Julian’s battle with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, his family found a source of support in Jacob’s Heart. From the moment they joined the Jacob’s Heart family, they felt welcomed, understood, and cared for. The everyday challenges that often felt overwhelming no longer had to be faced alone. Weekly grocery deliveries, rent assistance, and regular check-ins from their Family Support Specialist helped ease the pressures of daily life. With those burdens lifted, Julian’s parents were able to focus less on daily tasks and more on what mattered most, caring for their son.

“The random text messages I get from Jennifer [their Family Support Specialist] asking how Julian is doing help so much. I get wrapped up in my daily life that there are thoughts I don’t share with anyone. When she pops in and asks how things are going, it means a lot to me to check in.” - Julian’s Mom
Now eight-years-old, Julian reached a major milestone when he completed treatment for B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia and proudly rang the bell on April 10, 2026. Surrounded by his family, his Family Support Specialist, and other members of the Jacob’s Heart team, the moment was a joyful celebration of the strength, resilience, and hope that carried them through the two years of treatment.

As Julian looks ahead, he is excited to enjoy the simple joys of childhood again. He will be attending summer camp and spending time with friends without the limitations that cancer once placed on his life. Although the uncertainty of remission remains and his parents carry a worry of the unknown, their journey has shown them the power of leaning on one another and their community. Together, they move forward knowing that they can face whatever comes next and their Jacob’s Heart family will be right by their side.

Thank you for supporting children like Julian and his family as they battle pediatric cancer. Your support ensures they do not have to face the unimaginable alone.
