Individual or Small Group Volunteers

Support Group Dessert

Requires volunteers to bake and deliver dessert for our families to enjoy at support groups - count on 25 to 40 servings. Volunteers have the option of presenting the dessert to our families by introducing themselves and their project during the dinner period of the group. Human Race Walkers

Requires volunteers to fundraise for Jacob's Heart Children's Cancer Association by gathering pledges and walking with our team in May 2007! Pledge Forms are available now at our office. Volunteers must raise a minimum of $25. Pledge forms and Walker/Runner Information Sheets are available at: Human Race Info & Forms, Jacob's Heart or The Volunteer Center (1010 Emeline Ave, Santa Cruz; 251 East Lake Ste. 8, Watsonville; or 6116 Highway 9, Felton)

All money collected must be handed in on May 10th during the Human Race Registration, which begins at 7:00 am. Checks must be written out to " The Human Race" with "#115 - Jacob's Heart" written in the memo section. Not only does this fun-filled event create awareness and funding for Jacob's Heart, but also provides exciting benefits to the walker such as free breakfast, free T-shirt or scarf, and picnic lunch.

Coloring Thank You Cards

Requires volunteers to use their creative talents by coloring the front of Jacob's Heart Thank You Cards. Volunteers can do this at home or at Jacob's Heart during a staff-designated time. This is a perfect activity for classrooms and volunteers with limited time.

Relay for Life

This is a twenty-four hour American Cancer Society (ACS) event in Santa Cruz on July 21-22 in Watsonville August 11-12 and in Salinas June 22-23, 2007. Event volunteers are required to help set-up, register walkers, collect and decorate luminary bags, walk if part of a team, clean up, etc.

Larger Groups of Young People

Car Wash

This requires the group to fundraise by planning, publicizing, organizing, and managing a car wash. The day and time is left opening to the Troop Leader or Organizer of the group. If they require a staff person to be present on the day of the Car Wash or would like to present the check formally to the staff, a date and time must be arranged 2 weeks in advance.

Food Drive

This entails a group helping the Jacob's Heart Food Program by restocking our emergency food shelf. Independently organize a food drive collecting nonperishable food items such as canned fruit and vegetables, pasta, cereal, rice, tuna, etc. These groceries are essential; they help fill empty cupboards for families coming home from long hospital stays.
