Rallying & Empowering the Community in which our Kids Live
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, an entire community is affected. It is critical to children battling pediatric cancer in our community that we support those with whom they live and educate those on whom they rely for support. Jacob's Heart extends its support beyond the family, to include the community at-large.
Classroom Visits: Because children with cancer and their peers need a venue to talk about their feelings, to understand what cancer is, how it is contracted and effects of treatment Jacob's Heart visits classrooms. We give teachers the tools to talk about the empty chair in a classroom when a student dies from cancer. We help provide space for peers to talk about their reactions, feelings and fears, and to be empowered to respond.
Walls of Courage: In celebration of our children and the things that give them strength, we have created murals. The mural program feeds the minds and spirits of children struggling with cancer. Artists work with the children to paint murals of things that give them courage - the walls illustrate their hopes and dreams. Completed Walls of Courage can be seen in Santa Cruz, Hollister and Watsonville.
Community Presentations & Information Booths: We are available to speak at service clubs, schools, health fairs and other community gatherings.
